My current setup involves a Bare Metal Ubuntu Server, using Docker containers of various applications, including this WriteFreely instance, all running on an Optiplex. Most traffic is being funnelled through a VPN tunnel where necessary, though most outbound services (services that are discoverable) lie on a VPS in a separate region segmented from the main network. I plan to create an entire cluster of nodes to manage many services, primarily for sharing, media, productivity anf home security.

I do recommend others to follow this path, since this is the best way to gain freedom from the likes of big tech, spyware and authorities. I think many do agree that current laws have allowed pretty invasive tech to take root in everyone's lives, where the quote “If the product is free then you are the product” fits well to summarise the bulk of freeware provided by big tech.
